Person Centred work ethos of Sue Prowse

Person Centred Approach - Person Centred Counselling in Honiton and East DevonThe Way I Work

I work as a person-centred counsellor and supervisor.

For me Person-centred refers to anything that puts the individual at the centre of a process and is an approach to life as well as therapy.

I believe we are all unique – worthy of unreserved respect - and that we have inner resources for understanding ourselves as well as finding our own solutions.

I see my role as therapist, as assisting this natural process: I seek:

  • to share your view of reality rather than to impose my own
  • to build a relationship of trust whereby you feel supported and enabled to explore your thoughts and feelings and work towards an increased capacity for living.

Person-centred counselling is a dynamic relationship-based therapy recognising the uniqueness of each client.

Within our working relationship my aim is to communicate:

  • A genuine wish to accept you, to understand you and to respect your values and choices.
  • A real commitment to the relationship.

I work with individuals and couples within short-term, long-term, time-limited and open-ended contracts.  I believe it is the counselling process, the relationship, rather than time that is therapeutic.

As an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy I abide by their Code of Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

  • In counselling the right of the client to make their own decisions is respected.

All that takes place between counsellor and client is treated with confidentiality, respect and discretion.

I am committed to my own ongoing professional development and receive regular consultative supervision.
